Treetop Adventure Course

The Shauger Group, Inc. played a crucial role in the reconstruction of the Treetop Adventure Course at the South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange, NJ.  The original course was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.  To read more on the project, click here.

Prehistoric Park

The Shauger Group, Inc. built a children’s park and playground with a prehistoric and archaeological theme.  The park was given an “Excellence in Design” award by the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association in March 2014.  To read more on the project, click here.

Paddle Boating and Picnic Pavilion

In 2013, The Shauger Group, Inc. constructed a paddle boating dock and picnic pavilion at the Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex. In addition to building the 30-by-60-foot open-air pavilion and floating dock, The Shauger Group also constructed a restroom building and boat rental booth, as well as revamped the Oakdale parking lot. The Paddle Boat Area and Clipper Picnic Pavilion officially opened to the public on July 19, 2013.

East Orange Sweeping

The Shauger Group, Inc. performs the mechanical street sweeping for the City of East Orange. Street sweeping responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the removal of litter and debris. To read more on the project, click here.

Genesis Piscataway PowerBack Rehabilitation Center

The Shauger Group, Inc. constructed a new Genesis HealthCare rehabilitation center in Piscataway, New Jersey. The facility, which is 87,000 square feet in size and has 124 rooms for residents, is part of Genesis’ cutting-edge PowerBack rehabilitation brand. Among the center’s features: a state-of-the-art geothermal heating and cooling system, an aquatic therapy pool, and a 5,000-square-foot rehabilitation gym housing the facility’s physical therapy equipment. West Orange Police Valley Substation

In 2015, The Shauger Group, Inc. transformed a gas station located at 549 Valley Road in West Orange, New Jersey, into a 1,200-square-foot police substation. The substation, named the West Orange Police Valley Substation, houses full-time staff members of the West Orange Police Department’s Traffic and Community Affairs units. Cedar Grove Department of Public Works

For the Essex County Department of Public Works, The Shauger Group, Inc. installed two fleet hangars at the Essex County Fleet Maintenance Garage in Cedar Grove. The hangars house equipment and trucks for the Essex County Utilities Authority. The Shauger Group began work in November 2014 by first demolishing the old DPW service garage, which previously stood on the site. The Shauger Group then erected the two hangars, as well as did all necessary underground drainage work, utility work, and parking lot improvement work. To read more on the project, click here.

West Orange Public Library Façade Collapse Emergency Work

On January 29, 2015, The Shauger Group’s emergency response team was called into action after a partial collapse of the brick façade of the West Orange Public Library’s Edison wing.  The Shauger Group responded on-site within fifteen minutes of being called to handle the emergency work. Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority Valve Replacement

The Shauger Group, Inc. installed large gate valves for the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA)’s “Large Valve Replacement Project” in 2016. The Shauger Group replaced approximately thirty large valves in various locations of the JCMUA water distribution system. To read more on the project, click here.

East Orange Water Commission Water System Improvements

In 2014, The Shauger Group, Inc. replaced fire hydrants and 4,615 linear feet of water main throughout the City of East Orange. By the conclusion of the project, The Shauger Group had installed more than 300 fire hydrants, more than a dozen insertion valves, and more than 75 gate valves, as well as had performed complete site restoration, including concrete, asphalt, and topsoil/seed restoration. Children’s Cherry Blossom Playground

In 2015, The Shauger Group, Inc. constructed the Children’s Cherry Blossom Playground at Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey. The playground, which has one play set for children ages two to five and another for children ages five to 12, has various nature-themed apparatus, as well as lion and cub playground pieces. The Shauger Group built the playground from the ground up, clearing the site, performing necessary earth work, paving, putting in rubberized safety surface material, and installing various site features.

Cherry Blossom Center

In March 2008, approximately three weeks before the 32nd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, Branch Brook Park in Newark became home to a restored visitors center and cherry blossom museum. Thousands of cherry blossom trees were planted in the expansive 360-acre park, with the goal that thousands more would ultimately be added to further beautify this picturesque and scenic location.

Memorial at Ivy Hill Park

The memorial, nestled in Newark’s Ivy Hill Park, stands in remembrance of three Newark college students who died tragically and another who survived after being shot in August 2007.  The triangular garden memorial, opened in April 2008, is surrounded by three walls, each bearing a different written dedication to the victims. Three cherry blossom trees stand in the students’ honors, and a fourth wall holds an inscription for the sole survivor.

Branch Brook Park Octagon Shelter

The 1,100-square-foot brick and granite shelter is located in Branch Brook Park in Newark.  The new shelter was designed and constructed in the likeness of the former shelter, which was torn down in 2005.  Slight modifications made during its 2007 construction included a minor increase in the structure’s size and wheelchair accessibility.

Jesse Allen Park

Newark’s Jesse Allen Park was demolished and redeveloped:  transformed from an old, abandoned park into a family-friendly and multi-purpose scenic park.  As part of The Trust for Public Land’s Parks for People-Newark program, the 2012 phase of the renovation included completely new retaining walls, new lighting, new brickwork, and striking landscaping.  Functional improvements consisted of the addition of basketball courts, outdoor exercise equipment, a children’s playground, a water spray park, and benches.

MiniGOLF Safari Miniature Golf Course

The miniGOLF Safari was constructed in September 2010 at the South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange.  The 19-hole African-themed course is state-of-the-art, with massive waterfalls and obstacles that make for a unique miniature golf experience. In conjunction with the opening of the course was that of a sizable parking lot, gorgeously landscaped and manicured and able to provide much-needed excess parking spots.

Big Cat Exhibit

The Shauger Group, Inc. constructed the  7,500-square-feet Big Cat Country exhibit in the Turtle Back Zoo. The exhibit features cougars and jaguars on display in mesh netting and glass enclosures. This project not only entailed the construction of the exhibit, but also the holding cells for the animals and the construction of new adobe-styled restrooms adjacent to the exhibit.

Veterans Memorial Park

The Shauger Group, Inc. transformed 2.7 acres of a former antiquated parking garage into a serene park dedicated to our Armed forces. It was the first country park developed in Newark in over 80 years. The Shauger Group planted over 400 trees, shrubs, and perennials. This project also included the construction of the memorial site in the center of the park which entailed ornamental walkways and a circular water fountain surrounded by ten flagpoles enclosed by a short granite wall.

Aviary Project

The Turtle Back Zoo’s Aviary exhibit was constructed by The Shauger Group, Inc. in 2008. This 2,500-square-foot caged in glass exhibit features 500 grass parakeets that fly around and interact with visitors.

Verona Park

The Shauger Group, Inc. constructed a five-station exercise course throughout Verona Park, featuring modern equipment and rubberized safety surfaces. The stations are connected via a walking path also constructed by The Shauger Group. In addition to the walkways and exercise course, landscaping and drainage to the boathouse area were installed to address flooding and erosion concerns.

Gibbons Apes Exhibit

The exotic exhibit was added at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange in September 2009.  The quarter-acre exhibit features Gibbons apes, lesser apes hailing from the tropical and subtropical rain forests in Asia, as well as themed scenery and bamboo.

Glendale Cemetery Veterans Memorial

The Glendale Cemetery Veterans Memorial was dedicated on October 11, 2012. The Shauger Group, Inc. headed the completion of upgrades to the memorial area located in the cemetery. The Shauger Group constructed the compass-shaped memorial area, as well as replaced the previous concrete walkways with brown and brick pavers.

East Rutherford Streetscapes

The Shauger Group, Inc. erected street lighting over a distance of 12 blocks for the town of East Rutherford.
